Industrial Mechatronics Systems is an interdisciplinary course which is an amalgamation of the principles of mechanical, electronic, electrical and computer engineering. This course is designed to develop knowledgeable and skillful technocrats who can cater to the rising needs of industry and society for innovative and useful products and systems required in healthcare, communication, energy, transport, space and defence applications. This course will have a lucid description of fundamentals of Mechatronics, interesting case studies and mini projects.
The eLearning content and interactive sessions will help students to learn the principles of Mechatronics and apply them in practice. The planned quizzes will assess the performance of students on a regular basis. This course is highly recommended as the knowledge gained will be useful to understand the working of existing Mechatronics based systems and to build newer ones.
Hands-on will be conducted using a physical kit-based setup which will require two sets of kits - PLC kit and Arduino kit. PLC kit, already present in the college for practical use in electrical/mechanical departments, can be used for this purpose. Prof. S. N. Joshi
Associate Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering
Dr. Shrikrishna N. Joshi has completed his doctoral degree in the area of “Intelligent process modeling and optimization of electric discharge machining process” from IIT Bombay, Mumbai, India in 2009. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, India. His research interests include mechatronics and manufacturing automation, CAD/CAM, advanced and precision manufacturing processes with a focus on application of laser in manufacturing, thin wall machining and single point diamond turning.
Three PhD students have graduated under his supervision and eight are in the pipeline. He has published about 55 research papers and six book chapters in refereed international journals and conferences and has edited two books on "Laser-based manufacturing" with Springer Nature.
Dr. Joshi has also developed a web course on “Mechatronics and Manufacturing Automation” under the scheme of NPTEL of MHRD, Govt. of India. The course was very well appreciated among the engineering industry, academia and research community. He has conducted this course at IIT Guwahati four times for B.Tech final year, M.Tech. and PhD students.
