Course Summary

The Embedded Systems Design using 32-bit ARM Microcontrollers course introduces students to advanced register architecture and communication peripherals required for the latest industrial, automotive and IoT applications. Examples of assembly languages and C language-based designs for peripherals will be used in this course to illustrate the usage of interconnected network applications. Real-time control using instances of interrupts, Real Time Operating System (RTOS) and multiprocessors will also be covered to showcase the advantages of this platform. Programming examples for analog-to-digital conversion, timer programming, interrupt, Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) and Inter-Integrated Circuit (I2C) will be used to illustrate the connectivity family. Nuvoton and NXP families and the libraries available for Cortex hands-on controller programming will also be introduced in this course.

According to a survey, the embedded systems industry will reach US$360 billion by the end of 2020. Jobs in the embedded industry are expected to reach 12 lakhs by 2020.

The objective of the course is to familiarise students with the ability to identify 32-bit ARM Microcontroller usage for products in embedded domain, sketch schematics of hardware interfaces using ARM microcontrollers, write modular code in assembly and C language, and use Cortex Microcontroller Software Interface Standard (CMSIS) libraries and program controller peripherals for various connectivity applications.
