IoT (Internet of Things) is an inter-disciplinary field. An IoT developer needs to understand the fundamentals of programming, hardware interaction, working with sensors and technologies like cloud computing, embedded systems, communication and security. As per a NASSCOM report, the IoT market in India is poised to reach $15 billion by 2020, accounting for 5% of the global market.
The IoT and its Applications course is designed to provide the theory and background of the concepts followed by a hands-on exercise. Students will be exposed to the intricacies and issues related to IoT development. They will be provided hands-on kits related to the curriculum. In the hands-on exercise, students will develop innovative programs to create a prototype using the kits.
Students need to perform some meaningful tasks using IoT technologies and the hardware on which they can perform these tasks.
Hands-on will be conducted using a physical kit-based setup which requires two sets of kits - NodeMCU kit and Arduino kit. NodeMCU kit and Arduino kit will be provided by TCS iON depending on the number of registrations per institution (the same Arduino kit can also be used for hands-on experiments in TCS iON Industry Honour Certification - Industrial Mechatronic Systems course). The kits will be shared among 5 students from each institute on a time-sharing mode. The kits once received by the institution have to be tested as defect free within 2 working days of delivery and will become the responsibility of the institution. The institution will be responsible for maintaining and managing the kits, its usage and bear any costs involved. The procurement process and the cost for any additional kits or peripherals required will have to be handled/borne by the institution.
